"Blue Cross and Blue Shield is a great company that values their employees. I have a great team and I enjoy the interaction with our members and their outcome which makes them feel respected and valued."

Taretta Wilson | Supervisor

We're the state's oldest and largest domestic health insurer, founded in New Orleans in 1934. Born right here in Louisiana, we are a private, fully taxed mutual company owned by our policyholders - not shareholders.

Why is that important? Because we're customer-owned and don't need to pay shareholder dividends, we can and do make every decision based on what's best for our members.

Blue Cross is a member of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, a group of 38 independent Cross and Shield plans that collectively cover more than 100 million Americans. That's more than any other healthcare system in the country.

Our membership in this national Association means that the Blue Cross ID card is recognized and honored nationally and in more than 200 countries around the world.

Blue Cross employs nearly 2,000 Louisianians in our Baton Rouge headquarters and in our eight district offices across the state. You will find professional co-workers who strive to go above and beyond our members' expectations.

Blue Cross is strongly committed to good corporate citizenship and social responsibility. Our management and our employees want to make a difference in the state we call home. Our Foundation supports more than 200 organizations all over Louisiana that contribute to the health and vitality of the communities where we live and work.

We encourage and support employee community involvement in many ways:

  • United Way
Each year, employees conduct creative fund-raising campaigns to support the Capital Area United Way, which funds many community agencies in the greater Baton Rouge area. The company matches employee donations dollar-for-dollar.
  • Matching Gift Program
For employees who want to donate to their favorite nonprofit cause, the company will match their contribution up to $1,500.
  • Employee Drives and Fundraisers
In addition to giving their time through volunteer work, employees have opportunities to give cash or non-cash donations such as food, toys or school supplies to charitable organizations.

Diversity is about appreciating, valuing and capitalizing on individual differences and creating an environment inclusive of those differences. We encourage the inclusion of all attributes that make individuals different from others, such as:

  • Race
  • Creed
  • Color
  • National origin
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Age
  • Persons with a disability
  • Genetic information
  • Protected veteran status
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity

Equal Opportunity Employer and Affirmative Action Employer

We are an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer, and we promote diversity.

We enjoy a diverse work environment with people from a wide range of cultural, racial and religious backgrounds and from all walks of life. Blue Cross recognizes and supports diversity with a Diversity Advisory Council (DAC) of employees, which offers diversity training programs and works to develop and sustain an environment of mutual respect and trust to enhance employees' performance and productivity.

Our Diversity Training Program activities emphasize awareness of and respect for diversity. The program offers leaders and employees the opportunity to:

  • Develop a work environment of mutual respect whereby employees are enabled to reach their fullest potential
  • Embrace the notion of capitalizing on differences with all employees from all walks of life
  • Understand how a diverse culture supports the alchemy of corporate success

I've been with Blue Cross for nearly 20 years and while I've seen a lot of people come and go, it's amazing how many have been here longer than me.
