Reminder: Feb. 15 Last Day to Buy 2015 Insurance From healthcare.gov

Feb. 2, 2015

BATON ROUGE – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana reminds you that Sunday, Feb. 15, may be your last day to buy a health plan and have coverage in 2015.

The federal health insurance Marketplace, healthcare.gov, is open through Feb. 15 for eligible people to purchase an individual health insurance plan. If you miss the Feb. 15 deadline, you may have to wait until the next open enrollment period, which doesn’t begin until the fall, to buy coverage for 2016. If you don’t buy now, you could be responsible for the full price of your medical bills and could have to pay a tax penalty.

You will be able to buy health insurance at any time during the year if you have a major life event such as getting married, having a baby, losing a job or turning 26 and aging off of your family’s health insurance.

Blue Cross is here to help guide you through purchasing a health insurance plan. We can also help you find out if you might qualify for help paying for your insurance.

You have the option to Call, Click or Come In:

If you plan to enroll in an insurance plan, you will need to have the following pieces of information ready:

  • A personal email address for the person who will be purchasing the insurance policy.
  • The Social Security numbers of all members of the family/household who will get coverage through that policy (such as your spouse, children or other dependent relatives).
  • If you are applying for help paying for insurance, bring employer and income information for all members of the household who will get coverage through that policy, such as pay stubs and W-2 forms.
  • Policy numbers for any health insurance coverage you have already.
