New Blue Bikes Users Can Get One Free 30-minute Ride Now Through August

NEW ORLEANS – In the summer heat, Blue Bikes are a great way to get there faster and feel the breeze. And, if you need an added reason to sign up,  new Blue Bikes riders can now get a free ride.

Blue Bikes, New Orleans’ bike-share program sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, is offering the promo code SUMMER19H. Riders who create Blue Bikes accounts for the first time using this promo code will get 30 free minutes of riding time,* which can be used anytime between now and Aug. 31.

Sign up for Blue Bikes at bluebikesnola.com or by downloading the Social Bicycles App from the Apple App Store or Google Play. You can redeem the 30-minute free ride by adding the promo code when prompted during sign-up.

After the 30-minute ride is over, you will be charged the regular rate of 10 cents per minute. All rides, including the 30-minute free ride, must take place within the New Orleans Blue Bikes system area, or you could be charged additional fees. Blue Bikes is continuing helmet giveaways and hydration hubs through August:

• Helmet Giveaways: On the second and fourth Mondays of each month, Blue Bikes will give out bicycle helmets donated by Healthy Blue Louisiana. Giveaways will be from 5-6 p.m. on the Lafitte Greenway near the playground. Helmets will be given on a first-come, first served basis while supplies last.
• Hydration Hubs: Blue Bikes team members will give bottled water to riders at select hubs throughout the city on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Locations will vary.

At the Hydration Hubs, Blue Bikes team members can help people learn more about the Reduced Fare $20/year plan. This plan is open to anyone who qualifies for Medicaid or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Louisiana Purchase/food stamps), and offers up to one hour per day of ride time. People who qualify for this plan can come to a Hydration Hub event to sign up and have their accounts verified on the spot.
