Blue Cross Celebrates Its Nearly 200 Nurse Employees During National Nurses Week

May 6, 2019

BATON ROUGE, La. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is fortunate to employ nearly 200 nurses, who work in many areas of the company. They support members as they go through some of the toughest struggles in their lives, reach out to those at risk to help them before they get very sick and are the backbone of the company’s mission to improve the health and lives of Louisianians.

“I have worked in healthcare for many years, both in clinical practice and as an administrator, and one thing I’ve realized is that nurses are the cornerstone of the health system,” said Blue Cross Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vindell Washington. “We simply wouldn’t be able to help patients get healthier, achieve results through our programs or make a difference in our members’ lives without the care and compassion of our nursing staff. Thank you to our nurses for all that you do.”

This week (May 6-12) is National Nurses Week, an annual observance that overlaps with the birthday of well-known nurse Florence Nightingale. Blue Cross is recognizing its nurse employees throughout the week.

Nurses hold various roles at Blue Cross. They work in Care Management to offer health coaching and personalized guidance for members with serious health needs, expand and enhance quality programs, most notably Quality Blue, and conduct analysis to identify healthcare trends and opportunities for improvement.
