Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Launches Spanish-Language Website

Visitors to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana’s new Spanish-language version of its website can now access key content in Spanish, the most-spoken non-English language in Louisiana. Visitors can click the Español button on the home page of the English-language website, or they can type es.bcbsla.com into their web browser.

The Spanish-language site allows Blue Cross members and prospective members to access certain health insurance information in Spanish, the most-requested language for translation at Blue Cross. According to U.S. Census Bureau data, Spanish is the most-spoken foreign language in the U.S., and in Louisiana, an estimated 157,000 people speak Spanish at home. The Census Bureau estimates that nearly 242,000 Louisiana residents are Hispanic.

“We developed this new website to give our Hispanic members an even better experience with Blue Cross. A translated website can help make Hispanic members and potential members more comfortable with the information they’re receiving," said Vielka Valdez, Blue Cross manager of Language Access and Development. “Improving the customer experience, no matter what language they speak, is something every Blue Cross employee is passionate about.”

While not all information will be available in Spanish—such as third party-sponsored pages or information only accessible by logging in—any Blue Cross member may request information in the language of their choice by contacting the customer service number on the back of their ID card. Hearing-impaired customers may call 1-800-711-5519 (TTY 711).
