Steer Clear of Vision Health Nightmares this Halloween

Oct. 29, 2019

In all the excitement of Halloween, it’s scary how easily accidents can happen. October is Eye Injury Prevention Month, and with the spooky holiday just days away, it’s important for both kids and grownups to know how to protect their eyes from getting hurt.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is sharing tips on how to see your way clear to a happy and safe Halloween. A few of these reminders include:

  • Keep eye safety in mind when choosing accessories for your costume. Avoid costume props with sharp ends, like wands or swords which may poke your child’s or other children’s eyes.
  • Avoid non-prescription costume contact lenses. Costume lenses are not one-size-fits-all, and they can lead to eye scratches and infections.
  • When it comes to make-up, like face paint and eyelash extensions, stay away from cheap materials and practice good hygiene.
  • Remove eye makeup before going to bed, and never share makeup with others.
