The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation is seeking nominations for the 2017 Angel Awards through Friday, April 14, 2017. Now in its 22nd year, the Angel Award® program recognizes volunteers who perform extraordinary work for Louisiana children in need. The Foundation will make a $20,000 grant to the Louisiana-based charity represented by each honoree.
The Angel Awards have recognized more than 170 Angels in almost every imaginable walk of life since 1995. “When it comes to Angels, it’s not whether they have a big title or a lot of money—what we’re looking for are everyday people doing extraordinary good over a long period of time,” says Foundation President Michael Tipton.
Previous Angel Award honorees represent a wide variety of vocations and include retirees, students and everything in between. Each was chosen for one reason: his or her impact on the lives of Louisiana’s kids through countless hours of devotion.

Profile of an Angel
In 2016, the Foundation recognized Keif Hester of Monroe with the Angel Award. Hester is a physical therapy technician at Melanie Massey Physical Therapy, where he works with children to overcome seemingly impossible odds on the road to self-sufficiency. While he works with clients, Hester thinks up ideas for special devices or equipment for kids who need help making movement easier. He comes in on nights and weekends to build his inventions.
Hester’s work has given him a passion for helping children with disabilities become self-sufficient. In his honor, the Foundation made a $20,000 grant to the West Monroe Civitan Club towards the construction of Smiles Park—a park where children of every level of physical ability can play together.
