BATON ROUGE, La. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana joins healthcare organizations throughout the state in recognizing the incredible work of nurses during National Nurses Week, May 6-12. This annual observance coincides with the birthday of famous nurse Florence Nightingale on May 12.
“Not only are we proud to celebrate the wonderful nurses who work here at Blue Cross, we are grateful for the amazing nurses we work with through our healthcare provider network statewide,” said Dr. Stephanie Mills, Blue Cross EVP – Health Services and chief medical officer. “During the past year, as we faced an unprecedented health crisis, the compassion, caring and dedication of Louisiana’s nurses was a bright light, and it will help guide us forward from the pandemic.”
Since December, Blue Cross has joined other healthcare organizations in encouraging everyone eligible to roll up their sleeves for the COVID-19 vaccine. As a member organization of the Baton Rouge Health District, Blue Cross is part of the COVID Safe outreach campaign. This campaign features Louisiana nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers sharing their COVID-19 vaccine experiences, urging everyone to feel safe, prepared and comfortable getting immunized.
Blue Cross employs nearly 200 nurses, who serve in a variety of roles. They lead Care Management programs and services, give clinical input toward medical policies, assist in rooting out fraud, build relationships with healthcare providers in the insurer’s network and address Customer Service needs.
An in-house team of health coaches, primarily nurses and including dietitians, social workers and pharmacists, support members who are dealing with long-term health needs, serious illnesses or acute injuries.
