Blue Cross Promotes Danielle B. Conway and Carole Paetz to Vice President

Sept. 22, 2021

BATON ROUGE, La. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana has promoted Danielle B. Conway to vice president, Benefit Operations–Client Services, and Carole L. Paetz to vice president, Benefit Operations–Claims Operations.

In her new role, Danielle Conway is responsible for establishing strategic objectives for Client Services and handling all management activities for clients with complex benefit plans. Also, Conway will be accountable for managing corporate and divisional projects sponsored by her area.

Conway reports to Paula Shepherd, senior vice president–Benefit Operations, who was promoted to Blue Cross’ Senior Management Team earlier this year. Both Shepherd and Conway are long-time Blue Cross employees with extensive experience working with members to address their healthcare coverage questions and help them get the care they need.

Previously, Conway was vice president, Enrollment & Billing. Joining Blue Cross in 2008 as Customer Service Manager, Quality & Training, she moved up within the company through several positions related to customer experience.

Among her accomplishments, Conway created a team responsible for implementing applicable health plan requirements of the Affordable Care Act. She led projects that brought efficiency and cost savings. Conway is known for her ability to build and manage relationships with key members, employer groups and brokers.

Conway earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University, later graduating from LSU’s Teacher Certification Program. She has a Six Sigma Green Belt and Real World Agile designation, as well as a Certificate in Health Insurance Education from AHIP.

Carole Paetz was previously director, Software Engineering and Business Engineering, in the Benefit Operations Division—a position she held since 2011. Among her many accomplishments in that role was leading and participating in multiple cross-functional/divisional teams working to deliver large corporate projects. These included projects required to support state and federal mandates.

Paetz also established the Business Engineering Team’s Incident Response Team and playbook. Having this group and its processes in place enabled the team to adapt quickly and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic along with three hurricanes making landfall in Louisiana during 2020.

Paetz has been with Blue Cross since 1980. During her time with the company, she has innovated, created, led and improved numerous systems and processes that have enhanced the effectiveness of the company’s IT, business engineering and business operations.

In her new role, Paetz is accountable for the effective management and performance of Claims Operations in the Benefit Operations Division. She will establish departmental strategic objectives, ensuring that claims operations are executed in a high quality, repeatable and efficient manner, and leading initiatives to improve processes and associated systems. In short, Paetz is responsible for all activities related to the administration and adjudication of claims. Like Conway, she now reports to Paula Shepherd.

Paetz earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology with an honors designation from the University of Phoenix, Baton Rouge, Louisiana Campus, in 2002. She is a Certified Health Insurance Executive (AHIP), Certified SAFe® 5 Agilist, Certified Six Sigma Green Belt, Certified Health Consultant (BCBSA) and Certified Professional, Academy of Healthcare Management.
