Blue Cross Recognizes 2021 Top Performers in Quality Blue Program

Dec. 21, 2021

BATON ROUGE, La. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is recognizing clinics and primary care providers statewide for their performance in Quality Blue, the insurer’s signature value-based care program. To see a list of all 2021-2022 Top Performers, visit www.bcbsla.com/QBPC.

In Quality Blue, Blue Cross works closely with providers to improve health outcomes and hold the line on costs. To gauge providers’ performance in improving their patients’ health, Blue Cross establishes clinical quality measures that track outcomes over time. For example, providers are tracked to see how many of their patients have blood pressure or blood sugar readings in a healthy range, are taking medication as directed, or are not smoking.

Blue Cross recognized four clinics with the highest scores on Quality Blue’s clinical quality measures:

Highest Overall Performance: Family Clinic, Inc. (Opelousas) and Northlake Medicine and Wellness Center (Covington)

Highest Achievement in Hypertension Care: Northlake Medicine and Wellness Center (Covington)

Highest Achievement in Vascular Care: Ochsner Health Network – Lafayette General Health Network – Internal Medicine Clinic (Lafayette)

Highest Achievement in Kidney Care: Stacey W. Mayeaux, M.D. (Opelousas)

Highest Achievement in Diabetes Care: Ochsner Health Network – Lafayette General Health Network – Internal Medicine of St. Martinville

Blue Cross also recognized three clinics that made the greatest overall improvements on the Quality Blue care measures with a 2021 Momentum Award:

Evangeline Primary Care, LLC (Ville Platte)

Schlamp Family Medical Clinic (Sulphur)

Gulf South Quality Network – East Jefferson General Hospital (Metairie)

In addition to clinic awards, Blue Cross recognized 177 individual primary care providers (physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants) who achieved top scores on the program’s clinical quality measures. See the complete list of Top Performers. They are listed in alphabetical order, with the chronic condition(s) for which they are recognized for optimal care beside their names.

Enhancing Quality Blue in 2022

Next year, Blue Cross will expand Quality Blue to give more network providers – and their patients – opportunities to participate in value-based care. This moves further away from fee-for-service and ties providers’ reimbursement to quality care and improved health outcomes.

Since it began in 2013, Quality Blue has been open only to primary care providers. Beginning in 2022, pediatrics providers can join. Blue Cross will open the program to other provider specialties in the coming years.

Blue Cross also will change the performance measures used to track provider performance in Quality Blue. Through 2021, Blue Cross has used quality care measures based on chronic conditions that are common in Louisiana, with peer-to-peer benchmarks to see how a provider or clinic is performing compared to all Quality Blue providers.

In 2022, Blue Cross will use nationally recognized quality-of-care metrics to track providers’ performance in Quality Blue. And, providers will be compared against national performance benchmarks, not just against other Quality Blue providers. This will create more opportunities for Blue Cross and providers to work together in closing gaps in care for more members.
