Blue Cross Celebrates 'Women Who Inspire Us' Throughout March

March 8, 2021

BATON ROUGE, La. – In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is recognizing and celebrating the achievements of women in science, community, government, literature, art, sports, medicine and more.

Connect with Blue Cross on social media to see images from the award-winning series “Women Who Inspire Us.” Some of the women featured this year are Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sacagawea and Florence Nightingale. The series, drawn and designed by Blue Cross graphic artist Dafina Dervishi, will be shared on the insurer’s social channels throughout March. You can download these images to post and share on your personal social media channels.

“Higlighting the trailblazing work notable women have done throughout history inspires us all and helps us see opportunities available today,” said Cindy Wakefield, Blue Cross spokesperson and member of the WOMEN of Blue employee resource group. “At Blue Cross, women make up more than 73% of our workforce, which is impressive. Women hold a variety of roles and provide leadership across the company. This month is a chance to come together, share our stories, learn from each other and celebrate how we’re all improving the health and lives of Louisianians.”

Blue Cross has several events planned for employees this month. WOMEN of Blue will hold its annual employee luncheon virtually, with guest speaker Dima Ghawi. She is the founder of a global talent development company with a primary mission for advancing individuals in leadership. Dima’s presentation, “Elevate Your Confidence,” will inspire the audience to realize their self-worth and revolutionize the way they perceive and project themselves to the world.

And, employees will get to learn the benefits of mindfulness through a series of short, virtual sessions WOMEN of Blue is offering during March. Wellness coaches will guide participants in breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. Mindfulness can be an effective way to deal with stress and anxiety, and regularly practicing mindfulness can boost overall health.
