BATON ROUGE, La. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana reminds those shopping for HealthCare.gov plans that Dec. 15 is the deadline to enroll for coverage starting Jan. 1, 2024. The annual Open Enrollment Period goes through Jan. 15, 2024. Anyone who enrolls in a HealthCare.gov plan after Dec. 15 will have coverage begin on Feb. 1, 2024.
“If you need to get covered for the New Year, HealthCare.gov is a great option to find a quality, affordable plan,” said Blue Cross Healthcare Economist Mike Bertaut. “More Louisianians now qualify for financial aid to help pay for their health plans. You can find coverage for very low or even $0 monthly premiums.”
Bertaut suggests working with an agent to compare plan options and find the best fit for your needs and budget. There is no cost to work with an agent, and you do not have to enroll in a plan.
“Don’t go it alone. Ask someone experienced in HealthCare.gov plans to look at your choices with you,” Bertaut said. “Are your healthcare providers in the network? How are any prescription drugs you take covered, and what would you pay when you get them filled? These are important things to think about before you enroll in a plan, especially if you’ll have a big health need next year, like having a baby or getting surgery.”
