(Baton Rouge, LA) — Points of Light, the world’s largest nonprofit dedicated to accelerating people-powered change, has named Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana to The Civic 50. This designation recognizes the top community-minded companies in the United States based on an annual survey. This is the sixth consecutive year Blue Cross has been named to The Civic 50.

In addition, Blue Cross was ranked first in the nation for integrating community service and support into its business operations.

For more than a decade, The Civic 50 has served as the national standard for corporate citizenship and showcases how leading companies are moving social impact and community service to the core of their business. The Civic 50 honorees are companies with annual U.S. revenues of at least $1 billion and are selected based on four dimensions of their corporate citizenship and social impact programs: investment of resources and volunteerism, integration across business functions, institutionalization through policies, and systems and impact measurement.

“We’re honored to once again be named to the Civic 50, and proud of the Blue Cross employees and the nonprofits they support for helping us earn this recognition,” said Bryan Camerlinck, president and CEO of Blue Cross.

“Overwhelmingly, the nonprofits that we support provide services for Louisianians in the toughest seasons of their lives – including health crises, disaster and loss. Our commitment to our mission of improving the health and lives of Louisianians goes beyond our lines of business, and extends into doing whatever we can to make our home a better place for everyone. As the only Louisiana-based health insurer, this is an important part of what makes us unique, and a big driver of our success,” he said.

To support those lifesaving nonprofits, Blue Cross employees volunteered more than 45,000 hours and gave more than $1.3 million in charitable gifts in 2023. The company itself gave $1.2 million, and its Foundation made more than $4 million in grants to support public health. A full breakdown of the company’s impact can be found in its 2023 Community Partnerships report.

“Expectations for companies to be leaders in civic engagement continue to increase,” said Jennifer Sirangelo, president and CEO, Points of Light. “Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana demonstrates how to maximize the full range of their assets – from people power to policy to financial contributions – to meet pressing needs and create thriving communities where they live and work. We’re thrilled to uplift and celebrate them as an honoree of The Civic 50 2024.”

The Civic 50 survey is administered by True Impact, and the results are analyzed by VeraWorks. The survey instrument consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform the scoring process. The Civic 50 is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate community engagement.
