NEW ORLEANS (Sept. 30, 2024) – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (Louisiana Blue) is once again teaming up with Blue Krewe to make it easier for Louisianians to get their seasonal vaccines. Louisiana Blue is sponsoring free Blue Bikes rides through Dec. 31, 2024, using the promo code VaxUpNola24.
By entering the code VaxUpNola24 in the Blue Bikes NOLA app, riders can enjoy two free, 30-minute rides to and from their preferred vaccine locations, including clinics, doctors' offices and pharmacies.
“We know that for many people, transportation can be a barrier to getting vaccines and other healthcare services. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Blue Bikes for a fourth year in offering these free rides,” said Michael Tipton, Louisiana Blue’s head of Community Relations and Foundation president. “The upcoming winter months and holiday season are when we see higher rates of flu, COVID-19, and other illnesses. We hope to make it easier to get the jab now so people can protect themselves and their loved ones from getting sick.”
Federal health officials issued recent guidance for seasonal vaccines:
● Everyone six months and older should get a flu shot
● Everyone six months and older should get an updated COVID-19 vaccine that protects against the virus strains currently going around
● Adults 75 and older, those 60 and older with long-term medical conditions like heart disease or respiratory illnesses, and pregnant people should ask their providers about getting an RSV vaccine
Most health plans cover seasonal vaccines at $0 or a very low cost. If you have questions about vaccine coverage on your health plan, contact Customer Service at the number on your member ID card.
If you have questions about which seasonal vaccines you need or when you should get them, ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for guidance.
Louisiana Blue Senior Medical Director Dr. Larry Simon recently did an interview with the Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate discussing the latest vaccine recommendations and tips for preventing seasonal illnesses.
