How do I join the Quality Blue Primary Care program?

If you are a Blue Cross member and your provider takes part in this program, you are a part of it, too. You do not need to do anything special or pay anything extra.

How can I make sure my provider is in Quality Blue?

General practice, family practice, internal medicine or geriatrics providers can be in Quality Blue. Look up your provider's name in our online directory at Quality Blue providers have a blue Q next to their names. The providers who are Top Performers in Quality Blue have stars next to their names, too. You can also ask your provider if he/she is in Quality Blue.

How does Quality Blue Primary Care work?

Blue Cross makes your health claims information available securely to your provider’s office so your provider knows more about your healthcare history. For example, you might have filled a prescription or had a school or workplace health screening since your last visit. Your provider can treat you better if he or she knows things like this.

We believe that when we communicate more with your provider before you go in for an appointment, you will save time and get the most out of your office visits.

What do I get from being in Quality Blue Primary Care?

Health Coaching: If you have a condition like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, our Blue Cross nurses may call you between your provider’s appointments to help you prepare for office visits or set goals to improve your health. We also have social workers and dietitians who may work with you to help you meet your health goals.

Quality, not Quantity: We pay your provider for taking extra steps to make it easy for you to get the care you need.

Reminders: Your provider will now have more information about your health history and may send you notices about screenings or shots you should have.

Lower Copayments: If you are on a Blue Cross health plan that has copayments for primary care office visits, you may get lower copayments for office visits with a Quality Blue provider. This depends on your plan's benefits, and it is only for the office visit. You will still pay your regular copayment for any other services, like X-rays or bloodwork, you have during an office visit.
