Blue Cross Hires Becca Mix as Vice President, Deputy General Counsel

BATON ROUGE – Mary Rebecca Mix joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana on May 20 as vice president, deputy general counsel. Mix brings nearly 20 years of experience in tax law, compliance and regulatory law and corporate legal, administrative and policy work to the nonprofit health insurer.

Mix will provide legal services to all areas of the company and its subsidiaries and assist Michele Calandro, Blue Cross’ chief administrative officer, general counsel and secretary. Mix will manage various units of the Legal Department.  

“Becca has the expertise in all areas of the legal field that she’ll need to handle the complex issues in healthcare and insurance,” Calandro said. 

Mix comes to Blue Cross from DentaQuest, LLC, a $2 billion private dental insurance company based in Boston. As vice president, Administration, Care Group and associate general counsel, she managed all legal and administrative aspects of Care Group and expanded it from 31 to 76 dental clinics in four years.

Previously, she was associate general counsel for The Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund at Tulane University and assistant general counsel and director of tax at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Inc., in Boston.

Mix earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of Massachusetts and her Juris Doctor degree at Loyola University School of Law. She also earned a master’s degree in tax at Boston University School of Law. She is a member in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
