NEW ORLEANS – The start of a new semester can be stressful enough – take the hassle out of getting around campus with a Blue Bikes University membership that’s only $10 a month.
Blue Bikes, sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, gives riders a healthy, green, affordable way to get around New Orleans without the stress of traffic and parking.
In its first year, Blue Bikes riders took more than 311,000 trips and racked up more than 601,000 miles. That’s a savings of nearly $350,000 compared with driving the same amount of miles in their cars, and a carbon offset savings equal to more than 26,500 gallons of gasoline!
The Blue Bikes University membership for $10 a month is available to students, staff and faculty from Tulane, Delgado, Dillard, University of New Orleans and LSU Health Sciences Center. The membership comes with:
While some of the eligible campuses are currently outside of the system area, Blue Bikes is working to expand in 2019 to include more colleges and universities. You can take advantage of the low-cost University Blue Bikes membership now and use the bikes to get around when out in the city. Blue Bikes are cheaper than cabs or most ride-share services, and bike hubs are close to events and attractions throughout New Orleans.
You need to have a valid college or university email address to sign up for the University membership plan. To sign up, choose the $10 University monthly membership plan at BlueBikesNola.com or in the Social Bicycles App and sign up using your school email address. You’ll need to verify that email address before you can use your Blue Bikes account.
Enter a credit card when you sign up, which will be charged $10 per month and billed for any additional ride time you use over the free hour per day.
Blue Bikes offers other membership options:
All Blue Bikes monthly or annual memberships give you an hour of ride time per day, which can be used in increments or all at once. Additional ride time is charged at 10 cents per minute.
Riders should always lock Blue Bikes within the system area to avoid additional fees. Find an updated map of the system area at bluebikesnola.com or the Social Bicycles app.
