BATON ROUGE, LA -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, the state’s largest health insurer, is relaxing some restrictions to ensure that customers affected by Tropical Storm Harvey can get the medicine they need.

Early drug refills are available to members with Express Scripts pharmacy benefits. For a limited time, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and HMO Louisiana, Inc., are offering early refills on medications for members with Express Scripts pharmacy benefits so they can get needed medications refilled early if they have to evacuate, lost their medications in the storm or think they may have limited access to their pharmacy in the upcoming days. Members who have trouble refilling a prescription can call the Pharmacy or Customer Service number on their ID cards, and Blue Cross and Express Scripts will facilitate the process with the pharmacy. This applies to members with an Express Scripts logo on their Blue Cross or HMO Louisiana ID card who have refills available for their prescription medicines.
Members can have online doctor visits or get prescriptions filled with BlueCare. BlueCare is a benefit for most members, giving them 24/7 access to online doctor visits through their computer, laptop, smartphone, tablet or any device with an internet connection and a camera. BlueCare costs $39 per visit. Depending on their plan type and benefits, Blue Cross may mail members a refund once the claim for their BlueCare visit has processed.
To use BlueCare, members can go to http://www.BlueCareLA.com or download the BlueCare (one word) app from the Apple Store for iOS devices or Google Play for Android. They will need to create a log-in ID and password on their first visit, which they will use for any BlueCare visits going forward. Online visits are effective for treating non-emergency, minor illnesses like colds, allergies, bladder infections, sinus trouble, mild stomach bugs or rashes. Doctors can send a prescription for most medications over BlueCare.
All members must still pay their usual copayments, deductibles and coinsurance for all covered healthcare and medicines. All other standard procedures are still in place. Blue Cross advises members with a true emergency, a life-threatening or serious illness or injury, to call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
