BATON ROUGE – For the second year in a row, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana has been named among the country’s top Military Friendly Employers. The designation is from G.I. Jobs, an important service for helping veterans and those transitioning from active military duty find civilian career and academic opportunities. This designation recognizes the insurer’s efforts to attract, recruit and retain current and former military members as employees.
“We value having a diverse group of employees, including veterans and military family members,” said Rod Teamer, Blue Cross Director of Diversity Programs and Business Development. “Their service and experience positions them well to lead innovation across the company and help us truly improve the health and lives of Louisianians.”
Blue Cross will be featured in the 2022 Military Friendly Employer guide. The guide is issued to service people as they transition out of active duty and is distributed to National Guard and Reserve Centers, Veteran Affairs offices and Transition Assistance Program classes worldwide.
In addition, Blue Cross has been recognized for being military friendly through its Supplier Diversity Program. The insurer is a corporate sponsor of the National Veteran Business Development Council, which gives recommendations of certified veteran-owned businesses to include in bidding processes for corporate contracts. Blue Cross continually makes efforts to include veteran-owned businesses, along with women and minority-owned businesses, among its contractors and suppliers.
Among Blue Cross’ programs and services to recognize current and former military members are education and outreach sessions about military service for all employees and companywide recognition of military-focused holidays or observances. Blue Cross has an employee resource group (ERG), Boots to Blue, for employees who are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, those who have served and those who are members of military families or support the military.
This week, in honor of Veterans Day, Blue Cross is sharing original graphics across its social media channels with quotes from Boots to Blue members about the ways military service has influenced their lives and careers. Anyone is welcome to like, share or repost these graphics to their personal social media to recognize veterans for their service.
