Blue Cross Celebrates Power of Women at the Table During March
Nearly two-thirds of insurer’s workforce are female employees

March 8, 2022

BATON ROUGE, La. – As an employer with a predominantly female workforce, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is recognizing and celebrating women’s achievements in health care, along with science, civic leadership, business, industry, sports, literature, technology, the arts and more during Women’s History Month.

At Blue Cross, 74% of employees identify as female, and women hold the majority of management-level positions in the organization, at 65%.

“The growth over the past several years in both the number of women we employ and the opportunities for them to provide leadership in areas across the company are impressive,” said Dawn Cantrell, Blue Cross senior vice president, Health Services Operations.

Cantrell, a 35-year Blue Cross employee, is the newest female member of the insurer’s Senior Management Team. She was promoted to this role in October 2021 after serving in a variety of leadership roles at Blue Cross over her three-decade career.

“In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, we’re giving men and women a chance to connect and share stories about the opportunities, challenges and inspiration they’ve encountered as they follow their own career, family and educational paths. In doing so, we hope to find new ways we can support and mentor each other to keep moving forward,” Cantrell said.

Later this month, Blue Cross’ female-focused Employee Resource Group, WOMEN of Blue, will hold its annual employee luncheon virtually, with guest speaker Dima Ghawi. She is the founder of a global talent development company with a primary mission for advancing individuals in leadership.
