April 10, 2023

BATON ROUGE, La. – Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) is pleased to announce Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana’s (Blue Cross) sponsorship of Love the Boot Week 2023, an annual statewide litter cleanup and beautification event happening April 17-23. This week of statewide events to remove litter and beautify public spaces around Louisiana coincides with National Volunteer Week and Earth Week (April 16-22). With Blue Cross’s $10,000 sponsorship, KLB can grow the event and support more individuals and groups in their efforts to clean up Louisiana communities.

“Blue Cross’s mission is to improve the health and lives of Louisianians, and making sure families have clean, green spaces to exercise, have fun or relax is very important to everyone’s well-being,” said Dawn Cantrell, Blue Cross senior vice president, Health Services Operations, and KLB board member. “That’s why we are proud to support Love the Boot Week. And our Team Blue volunteers look forward to joining other Louisianians in committing to picking up litter within our communities.”

“We are happy to have Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana’s support for Love the Boot Week,” said Susan Russell, Executive Director of KLB.” “The organization’s leadership believes it’s important to create a healthy, clean environment for Louisiana residents to enjoy and thrive in. When we all work together, businesses included, we can make our dream of a litter-free Louisiana a reality.”

At 10 a.m. on April 17, Blue Cross representatives will participate in the Love the Boot Week kickoff reception and press conference at the Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge. Attending this event are Love the Boot Week event organizers, state leaders, KLB Affiliates and partners, and event sponsors. Blue Cross will welcome special celebrity volunteers to the kickoff event, including the reigning Miss Louisiana, Gracie Reichman, volunteers with the New Orleans Saints, and a Saints Legend former player.

Following the kickoff reception and press conference, Blue Cross Team Blue volunteers will take part in a litter cleanup event in the Mid-City neighborhood of Baton Rouge. This is the first of many events scheduled in different regions of Louisiana throughout Love the Boot Week.

In 2022, Love the Boot Week engaged 8,476 volunteers in removing 293 tons of litter from Louisiana at 280 registered events. To date, more than 380 Love the Boot Week events have been registered for 2023.

Everyone in every parish is invited to register a cleanup or beautification event and/or sign-up to volunteer for Love the Boot Week at www.lovetheboot.org.
