BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisianians should be aware that a Facebook post circulating about a job fair at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana’s (Louisiana Blue) main campus is a scam.
The post was made to a Facebook group for open jobs by a person claiming to be a Louisiana Blue employee. This person is not an employee and not affiliated with the company. The post directs people to come to Louisiana Blue’s main campus in Baton Rouge to apply for jobs as call center and front desk agents. The post includes a phone number that is not a Louisiana Blue extension. People who have called this number said they were asked to share sensitive and personal information.
Louisiana Blue staff have reported this fraudulent post to Meta, the parent company of Facebook, multiple times. The site has not yet removed it. If you see this post, report it as fraud to raise awareness and prompt Facebook to remove it quickly.
If you called this number and shared any personal, sensitive or financial information, it is a scam. Report this immediately to law enforcement and make your bank, credit card companies and other financial institutions you use aware this happened.
Louisiana Blue posts all legitimate job openings and opportunities online at its Blue Careers webpage. Hiring representatives will not ask you to share personal or sensitive information over the phone, especially not on your first call about a potential job. Louisiana Blue Talent Acquisition team members regularly attend and participate in job fairs around the state, but the company does not hold open job fairs at its main campus.
Louisianians should remain vigilant about avoiding fraud and scams. In general, if anyone asks you to share your personal, sensitive or financial information, be suspicious, especially if it’s someone you don’t know or have never spoken to before. Ask why they need this information and how it will be used. If you are in doubt, contact the company the person asking about it claims to represent at an established phone number or email address to ask if you really need to provide this information.
